After watching the film, “Like Water for Chocolate,” I believe Mama Elena is the most developed. She has an affect on everyone’s lives. Her personality sets the mood of the film. She is more like a father figure than she is a mother. She is strong, dominate, masculine, selfish, traditional, and hardworking. Mama Elena is the way she is because she does not have a husband to help her raise the kids. Also, her past makes her angry and moody every day. She has to take on both the mother and father role. She does not treat all of her children equally. Tita suffers because her mother treats her horribly. Since Tita is the last child, she is responsible for taking care of her mother as she ages. This means that she is unable to marry. What kind of mother is this selfish? She forces her older daughter to marry the man Tita loves. Even when she dies, her spirit haunts and curses Tita.
I agree with Rosaleen that the most developed character would have to be Mama Elena. Unlike the other character who showed weakness, Mama Elena throughout the whole movie, even when she was a ghost was a dominant, strong, and wicked lady. Never did Mama Elena have to second guess what her beliefs were or what she wanted for her children. Mama Elena had to be strong for her family because she like Rosaleen said, was the father and mother of the family. Unfortunately, i don't believe that Mama Elena did a good job in being nurturing and loving like the old lady who was Tita's inspiration in cooking.
I believe that Tita is the most developed character. She is the most developed because she holds a lot of power with her cooking. People can feel her feelings by the way she cooks. When Tita is cooking the cake for the wedding she cries in the mix. After the guests eat the cake the start to vomit because they can feel the pain that Tita is going through. She was able to stand up for herself against her mother when she decided to move out of the ranch and marry a man. She was willing to break the tradition because she thought that it was wrong. She stood up for her beliefs and was able to establish a mind of her own. Tita worked so hard for her family that she became the main caretaker for everyone in her family. She loved Pedro so much that when he died she set herself on fire along with her house out of love. She couldn't live without Pedro. She had lost him to her sister and she was not willing to lose him again. Instead she decided to take her own life so that they could be together.
I think the most developed character would be Tita. In the beginning of the movie, Tita seemed to be such an obedient character by doing cooking and chores particularly for her mother. But when Tita and Pedro fall in love with each other, they want to get marry, which was against her mother’s rules. Tita became hurt because her sister was going to marry Pedro. Consequently, Tita refused to go to the wedding to ease her pain of Pedro, even if it meant disobeying her mother. She also refuses to listen to her mother when she tells Tita to throw away the roses that Pedro gives her, and even blames her for the death of Pedro and Rosaura’s baby boy. It demonstrates how much love can affect a person and Tita’s strength to make her own choices in life. In the end of the movie, Tita marries Pedro. I think this shows that Tita’s power to make her own decision overrules in the end, unlike in the beginning of the movie when her thoughts and choices did not matter and she was completely obedient to her mother’s wishes.
I agree with Kevin and Rosalind that the most developed character is Tita. She does hold a lot of power in her cooking and has a type of impact on each character’s life. She was able to take in the verbal abuse and ordering around from her mother and I admire that. She never lashed out really until later on, but I’m surprised about how much she was able to take. I find her to be a strong character because receiving insults from the person who is suppose to love her is not an easy thing to live with. Another way I find her to be the most developed character is when Pedro, her lover, married Tita’s sister. If I was her, I couldn’t live with that. Seeing someone you love marry another woman is not easy to watch. Also, Tita was not allowed to marry because of tradition. But in the end, she decided to not follow tradition anymore because she didn’t want that to be the case for her future kids. Tita is such a strong character because throughout the movie, you can tell she started to grow and make her own choices in her own life.
In my opinion, the most developed character in the story is Tita. In the beginning of the story, she is love-struck individual. Her soul mate, Pedro, makes Tita a happy and joyful woman. But as Pedro marries Tita’s sister, Tita becomes a foul and revengeful person. Her love for Pedro compels her to create cooking spells in order for her to gain back her happiness. At this point in the movie, Tita is a selfish woman. Although she acts terribly for her own reasons, things in the movie start to change. For example, Pedro comes back to be with her, and this makes me reveal Tita’s good side. She becomes filled with compassion as she and Pedro make love. And, her final scene where she eats the match sends the message that there is nothing that hurts more than the pain of a lost soul mate.
To me, the most developed character in "Like Water for Chocolate" would be Tita. She was the one who endured the most. She worked the hardest amongst her two other sisters. She had to live life knowing that she is prohibited from loving/getting married to any one, that she had to stay by her mother's side and take care of her in her old age. It must have been awful living in that mindset, knowing that everything you did, was for someone else. It was like she was born into her own family as a slave worker. She was always bossed around and never had time for herself. From beginning to end, Tita's emotions and feelings were shown through everything she did. Her attitude had evolved so much. She would obey her mother and her odd rules. Later, after her mother dies, she is still haunted by her ghost, but goes after what her heart had desired for so many years, Pedro.
I believe the most developed character in the movie Like Water for Chocolate is Tita. Tita embodies so much passion and is a very deep character. She had to overcome the hardest challenges and the most difficult struggles. Her mother forbade her to marry so she was like a servant to her mother. In return, her mother treated her like a servant, not a daughter. Tita’s sister also married Tita’s boyfriend. Although Pedro married Tita’s sister to be closer to Tita, she still had to struggle with constantly seeing the two together. The only way she was able to communicate with Pedro was through her cooking. Somehow, everyone who ate Tita’s food was able to feel the emotions she had while making the food – a magical realism aspect.
In the movie "Like Water for Chocolate," the most developed character was Tita. Although she had to live most of her life the way her mother expected her to, she always knew what she wanted she wanted out of life. When she was younger she fell in love with Pedro but respected her sister's feelings and did not pursue him. Also, throughout the movie it was evident that most of the magic revolved around her and most of the time in her favor. The magical elements helped her to cope with the pain she felt, for example the incident with her sister's wedding cake. Tita was also lucky enough to have an amazing aunt and sister who helped her discover who she was as a person. Tita used her aunt's cook book as not only a guide through the kitchen but also as a guidebook for life. It filled Tita with wisdom and knowledge that helped her make difficult decisions. Especially the one to defy her mother's ghost and to be with Pedro, the man she should have been with in the beginning.
I think the most developed character in the movie "Like Water for Chocolate" is Tita. In my opinion Tita represents the typical teenager. I think so because in the movie Tita's mother doesn't allow her to date Pedro. She also sets a lot of rules that Tita must follow no matter what. When Tita disobeys her mother she is actually following what her heart is telling her to do. Her hearts long for her to fall in love with Pedro. In the end Pedro and Tita finally have an opportunity to make love to each other and ends up dying together as well. The love between them was so strong that it killed them. In conclusion Tita plays a vital role to the movie.
i think tita is the most developed character because is a very strong and passionate person. From the beginning to the end of the movie she has grown into a strong person. By her not being able to marry pedro really tore her heart and she never got down on her selfs she always held her head up high and kept going after pedro. They love was strong and they never failed eachother.
I also believe that Tita is the most developed character. In the beginning, she was always the person that had no say when it comes to things in her life. Her mother had her life all planned out and did not want her to marry the man that she fell in love with. Her heart longs to love and to be free from the burden of her mother. Mama Elena gave her the strength to go against her mother's wishes in order to pursue her own. Even though the movie ended with the death of both Tita and the man Pedro, Tita was able to finally have a say in her life.
